Nutritional Therapy: HYDRATION

The big ideas of hydration from a Nutritional Therapy perspective…

Water is the most common nutritional deficiency in our American population.

  • our bodies are 55-60% water
  • electrolytes are often needed for proper absorption
  • you can go 8 days without food but only days without water!
  • water can’t be stored- it is essential to hydrate.
  • drink half your body weight in ounces of clean water per day to stay hydrated
  • add an additional 12-16 ounces for every 8-12 ounces of diuretics (coffee, tea, soda, alcohol, juices)
  • know the early signs of dehydration- headaches, anxiety, depression, fatigue, irritable, cramps and cravings.
  • know the mature signs of dehydration– joint pain, migraines, back pain, heartburn, colitis, fibromalygia, constipation.
