Are you washing your hands for 20-seconds and avoiding touching your face? What else can you do to protect yourself from the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic?
As we experience fear about the Coronavirus spreading in our own area right now and the importance of improving our immune system- I wanted to send you some information we received via the founder, Reed Davis, of the Association of Certified FDN Practitioner program.
Also, I added links at the bottom of the letter for immune booster supplements you may be interested in taking as well as taking care of the WHOLE you from the inside out with self-care lifestyle habits to keep your immune system strong!
The WHOLESTIC Method eight elements include:
- Nutrition: eat right for your metabolic type (www.mtdiet.com) to balance your blood sugar. Eat real food. Avoid processed foods and inflammatory foods including refined sugar, processed grain, GMO corn, peanuts, soy, processed inflammatory vegetable oils (including Canola).
- Exercise: The Goldilocks Effect for everything not too much, not too little! Move, lift heavy weights and break a sweat!
- Stress: identify toxic energy robbers, environmental toxins, triggers and more – reduce, manage and meditate! Also, you can measure your stress with a Heart Rate Variability app (HRV).
- Sleep: sleep is when you recover, repair, rebuild and detoxify so make sure creating a sleep hygiene plan, getting to bed by 9pm (asleep by 10pm!) and unplugging earlier!
- Movement: get your steps in per day- outside daylight exposure is key for fresh air and sunlight plus mobility drills to move right!
- Digestion and gut health: digestion begins in your brain- so slow down and focus when eating (stop multi-tasking), chew your food and digest your best (HCL, Digestive enzymes and Spore based probiotic is helpful and protective). Take a PROBIOTIC and PREBIOTIC each day and eat healthy immune boosting foods as 70-80% of your immune system is in your gut wall lining so be kind to your gut by what you are eating, how you are eating, when you are eating and WHY. Drink bone broth (Bonafide Provisions is my favorite). Consume my favorite immune boosting “witches brew” = brew up lemon, garlic, turmeric root (shaved), ginger, and cayenne pepper for the ultimate immune boosting shot! Dr. Axe has provided a great list of 10 herbs, supplements, and essential oils that assist the immune system. A detailed summary of evidence supports each product (link below): ZINC, Vitamin C, Oregano Oil and more… see
- Echinacea
- Elderberry
- Colloidal Silver
- Probiotics
- Astragalus Root
- Ginger
- Ginseng
- Vitamin D
- Myrrh
- Oregano
- Hydration: drink half your bodyweight in ounces of filtered, clean water per day- plus add sea salt and lemon in the morning to aid in absorption. Your body is 60% water so make sure you hydrate your tissues and cells plus water helps for motility!
- Happiness, play, laughter and gratitude… key for wellness and longevity! You have a choice to be happy each day and live to THRIVE each day vs. trying to get through each day and SURVIVE it.

From the founder of FDN, Reed Davis, shared this letter with our our AFDNP…
Discover how you can transform the WHOLE you from the inside out by clicking here if you want to burn fat, optimize your health and improve your athletic performance now!

“Dear Colleagues, as some of you may recall, when I was a professor of pathology at the University of California San Diego, I was one of the first molecular virologists in the world to work on coronaviruses (the 1970s). I was the first to demonstrate the number of genes the virus contained. Since then, I have kept up with the coronavirus field and its multiple clinical transfers into the human population (e.g., SARS, MERS), from different animal sources. The current projections for its expansion in the US are only probable, due to continued insufficient worldwide data, but it is most likely to be widespread in the US by mid to late March and April.
“Here is what I have done and the precautions that I take and will take. These are the same precautions I currently use during our influenza seasons, except for the mask and gloves”.:
What I have stocked in preparation for the pandemic spread to the US:
Latex or nitrile latex disposable gloves for use when going shopping, using the gasoline pump, and all other outside activity when you come in contact with contaminant areas.
Note: This virus is spread in large droplets by coughing and sneezing. This means that the air will not infect you! BUT all the surfaces where these droplets land are infectious for about a week on average – everything that is associated with infected people will be contaminated and potentially infectious. The virus is on surfaces and you will not be infected unless your unprotected face is directly coughed or sneezed upon. This virus only has cell receptors for lung cells (it only infects your lungs) The only way for the virus to infect you is through your nose or mouth via your hands or an infected cough or sneeze onto or into your nose or mouth.
Stock up now with disposable surgical masks and use them to prevent you from touching your nose and/or mouth (We touch our nose/mouth 90X/day without knowing it!). This is the only way this virus can infect you – it is lung-specific. The mask will not prevent the virus in a direct sneeze from getting into your nose or mouth – it is only to keep you from touching your nose or mouth.
Stock up now with hand sanitizers and latex/nitrile gloves (get the appropriate sizes for your family). The hand sanitizers must be alcohol-based and greater than 60% alcohol to be effective.
Stock up now with zinc lozenges. These lozenges have been proven to be effective in blocking coronavirus (and most other viruses) from multiplying in your throat and nasopharynx. Use as directed several times each day when you begin to feel ANY “cold-like” symptoms beginning. It is best to lie down and let the lozenge dissolve in the back of your throat and nasopharynx. Cold-Eeze lozenges is one brand available, but there are other brands available.
“I, as many others do, hope that this pandemic will be reasonably contained, BUT I personally do not think it will be. Humans have never seen this snake-associated virus before and have no internal defense against it. Tremendous worldwide efforts are being made to understand the molecular and clinical virology of this virus. Unbelievable molecular knowledge about the genomics, structure, and virulence of this virus has already been achieved. BUT, there will be NO drugs or vaccines available this year to protect us or limit the infection within us. Only symptomatic support is available. I hope these personal thoughts will be helpful during this potentially catastrophic pandemic. You are welcome to share this email. Good luck to all of us!” – Jim

Another FDN Practitioner friend shared this information with me as I write this article…
Just watched a video this am that was passed along in Sayer Ji’s newsletter (GreenMedInfo). It was by someone who sits on an advisory board of the group that is working on China’s response to Covid-19 (Andrew Saul, I think? Don’t know what his credentials are, maybe just a medical journalist?). He says the Chinese are treating it with high-dose (IV) Vit C, that IV treatment has prevented mortality in 80% of cases where they’ve used it, and that even oral C is great for prevention and for lessening the effects if you do get it.
Another idea is to make sure you are taking HCL betaine and digestive enzymes to make sure you are strengthening one of your first line of defense- your digestive system by improving your acidity in your stomach so the bad guys don’t get past the acidic wash and enter your small intestine.
This virus is seems to start in your nose and mouth – but I feel that we need to improve our all of our first line of defense and bring out all the armor -especially as we enter full battle of this virus that is spreading in our own back yard. Do what you can do to take care of the WHOLE you from the inside out with the suggested precautions, lifestyle behaviors and recommended supplements.

Also here are more recommendations from the CDC…
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/about/prevention-treatment.html
There is currently no vaccine to prevent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus.
However, as a reminder, CDC always recommends everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, including:
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
Stay home when you are sick.
Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
Follow CDC’s recommendations for using a facemask.CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19.
Facemasks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to others.
The use of facemasks is also crucial for health workers and people who are taking care of someone in close settings (at home or in a health care facility).
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.
For information about handwashing, see CDC’s Handwashing website
For information specific to healthcare, see CDC’s Hand Hygiene in Healthcare Settings
These are everyday habits that can help prevent the spread of several viruses. CDC does have specific guidance for travelers.
