Is your food making you fat?

What is a food sensitivity and how does it impact your ability to lose weight and get healthy?

  • Does your inflammation is affecting your weight?
  • How do you reduce your inflammation?
  • Does reducing your inflammation also reduce your weight?

How Do Food Allergies Relate to Weight Gain?

“Food allergies and sensitivities can have a ripple effect when it comes to weight gain. While the allergy or sensitivity you experience does not directly cause your body to put on extra pounds, the reactions you experience may indirectly lead to weight gain.” – Dr. Parsley

What is a Food Allergy?

  1. It is an immunologic response.
  2. When you eat something to which you are allergic, your immune system negatively responds to the allergen.
  3. It is your immune system’s job to protect the body, your immune system tries to fight the allergen by unleashing natural biochemicals that cause the allergic reaction(s) you experience.

What is a Food Sensitivity?

  1. If you’ve felt discomfort, bloating or lethargy after eating a particular food, then you may be experiencing sensitivity to a certain food.
  2. The body is unable to digest certain compounds, especially proteins found in items like milk, eggs, wheat or soy.
  3. Once your body ingests these foods, you experience those uncomfortable symptoms.

Chronic Inflammation & Weight Gain Connection:

  1. Inflammation is caused or a result of the several diseases and conditions as insulin resistance, which can lead to weight gain.
  2. Insulin regulates the body’s ability to metabolize the food we eat.
  3. When the body becomes insulin resistant it isn’t able to properly metabolize foods.
  4. This inability is associated with increased weight gain especially around the lower abdomen.
  5. When left untreated, food sensitivities and allergies may also lead to weight gain because you’re unable to continue the same level of daily fitness.

More than two-thirds of your body is water and the body can sometimes retain too much, creating unnecessary weight gain. This can be a consequence of poor kidney function, hormonal imbalances and too much sugar. The body stores excess sugar as glycogen, each unit of which is bound to four units of water. In addition, one very common cause of water-logging is food intolerance.” –https://www.patrickholford.com/advice/food-intolerance-making-you-fat

What if your test results show that all of your favorite foods are “RED” – and you must avoid or remove them in order to heal your gut, reduce inflammation and source of chronic stress.

Not to worry.  We must remove these offending foods (identified in IgG and IgA lab tests) for six months while REPLACE, REINOCULATE, REPAIR and REBALANCE your gut- then we can reintroduce the foods!  WE need to work on taking care of the WHOLE you to reduce inflammation and heal your gut or else we continue to take one step forward-two steps back if we continue eating reactive foods that set another “fire” to your gut causing the immune system to be activated to “put out the fire” and for the adrenals/HPA Axis “emergency response team” to respond to the threat.

Chronic stressors are external and internal sources- and they accumulate!

We want to improve our gut health during our healing and repairing journey be adding nourishing foods as:

  1. Digestive enzymes
  2. Glutamine
  3. Bone Broth
  4. Probiotics
  5. Aloe Vera and other herbal soothing supplements
  6. Vitamin C Plus as from Seeking Health or Pura Thrive
  7. Quercetin from foods as red onions
  8. Omega-3s as from oily fish, flax seeds and chia seeds

Dr. Hyman wrote an article on food allergies (ten years ago!) that sums up the damage…

  1. When you eat a typical American diet, you foster the growth of bad bugs in the gut.
  2. They damage the gut lining and produce toxins that are absorbed into your system.
  3. Due to the damage in the gut -the partially digested food particles also leak into your bloodstream.
  4. The immune system reacts to the toxins and foods by producing a firestorm of inflammation.
  5. The inflammation leads to a fatty toxic liver and insulin resistance
  6. Insulin Resistance leads to higher levels of insulin in your body.
  7. Remember that insulin is a fat-storage, disease- and aging-promoting hormone.
  8. An unhealthy gut makes us fat and sick because it makes us toxic and inflamed.

If you don’t want to spend the money on investigating what is really going on “under the hood” with health coaching programs as my Total Transformation Program, then you could do a food elimination program yourself or join my next “30-day Group Reset & Reboot” program.

The first step in healing and rebuild the WHOLE you from the inside out is one of the “R” s in the protocol… REMOVE!

As Dr. Hyman explains in his books and programs- start with a 3-4-week program as he explains to “Eliminate Food Allergens and Re-Balance Your Gut Ecology”.

Step One:  Eliminate the most common inflammatory and reactive foods- as processed grains, gluten, commercial dairy, eggs, corn, yeast, soy, and peanuts.

Step Two:  Make sure you consume a nutrient dense whole foods diet to feed the good bugs in your gut and to replace the missing nutrients your body needs to function at optimal levels.

Step Three:  Consume quality probiotics that are able to bypass your stomach acid, as Microbiome Labs Spore Based on Seeking Health Probiotics, to boost your healthy bacteria in your gut.

Do food sensitivities and allergies set you back on your weight loss program?

Always remember that there is NOT a “PERFECT DIET” and there is NOT a one size fits all approach to fat loss as we all have different microbiome, hormone levels, stress levels, food sensitivities, genetics, ancestry background and lifestyle – activity levels!

Bio-individuality.

More to come.

Do you want to get your body and vibrant self back again? Transform the WHOLE you with “The WHOLESTIC Method” health coaching & the LOW CARB ATHLETE Podcast.

Debbie helps driven and ambitious people, who are trying to do all the “right” things, investigate what is actually going on “under the hood” to get their body and vibrant self back.

Perhaps you have seen multiple doctors and experts but they tell you everything is “normal” and there is nothing wrong with you.  That was my experience.  I refused to believe that “nothing is wrong with me” and this is part of “getting older”.  This was not going to be the new me and stop me from investigating what was really going on from the inside out – under the hood.

You have a choice to take care of the WHOLE you and even transform the WHOLE you from the inside out.  Please don’t give up and settle, as the struggle is real and you are not alone.  If you feel exhausted trying to do all the “right” things and still can’t feel, move or look better then we need to take a different approach.

Remember- the definition of Insanity is …

“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

If you are stuck in the “cycle of trial and error” then it is time to take a different approach and look at the WHOLE person with “The WHOLESTIC Method” investigation coaching program if you want to REPAIR-REBUILD-RESTORE the WHOLE you to be a fat burner, health optimizer and reach peak athletic performance gains.
