Do you ever unplug and disconnect?

How many minutes or hours do you think you check your email, phone, messages, texts and social media?

Our society has become addicted to staying connected and “FOMO” = fear of missing out.  Why do we feel the need to check our messages and social media updates so frequently?

Why do we need to share our photos and experiences or comments on Social Media immediately?  Why don’t we wait until the end of the day or the end of a vacation to share our memories?  Instead we are always multi-tasking and not being present – or being focused and staying in the moment.

How can we improve or change this habit?

Well last week, I had a very stressful and emotional week at work due to back end office work.  I could feel my HPA Axis/emergency alert system was over active as I know my red flags to excessive release of the stress hormone released into my system.  I as a mess.  How do I reset and reboot my system?

I unplug and disconnect.  My husband had a work meeting in Minneapolis so we took a quick weekend get-away vacation to explore a new town and experience a new adventure.  Saturday and Sunday I kept my phone off the majority of the time and used my husband’s phone for photos and maps.  I only checked my phone messages two times before we left the hotel  Saturday morning for work to check on my new trainer then on Sunday night to ch

eck important messages from my Monday clients.

In my opinion, we need to schedule time in our week and weekends to unplug and disconnect in order to reset, reboot and recharge our system.  I discovered it felt so great to have my phone off and no computer work to do… instead I scheduled time to catch up with work on Tuesday.  My time with my husband Neal was much more focused as I was present and happy.  I wasn’t distracted since I wasn’t multi-tasking and half listening to him.

Be Present.   Take a weekend day or evening to turn off electronics.  Avoid social media for a day or more.  Try it and find out how you feel!  Let me know!
