Get your mind right!
One of my favorite mentors, Todd Durkin, has many powerful motivational tips, but during the World Championships for Ironman in Kona we all need to get our mind right by game day.
Ironman mindset is similar to a pro football player or any competitive athlete who wants to play their best. But how does an athlete clear their mind from distractions, focus and play their best on game day?
I was riding on the Queen K today thinking about what do I need to do this week to get ready for Ironman Hawaii on Saturday? Mind-body connection. Workout solo and focus on me. I need to focus on my technique in the swim ( trouble area to feel best stroke mechanics), bike solo on the IM course and run. I need to get into the right mind set for me to find and feel the correct most efficient rhythm with my left and right side for the swim, bike and run.
I watched most cyclists ride together and chatting, which is great, but the week before a world class event I feel that we all need some solo training time as we will be racing solo on Saturday. Rehearse the race and turn common negative chatter into positive opportunities.
