Things we don’t like are what we need to do more of…
I am on my way home from four days at the IDEA World Fitness Convention in LA and feeling the need to inspire others to help make the changes they need in their exercise and nutrition program. Basically, if you are not getting the results from your workout or the newest, latest, greatest “diet” then you probably could benefit from an overhaul of your current routine. When we exercise, we tend to do the exercise or movement, that we are good at doing. Review your workout routine from the past six months…have you been challenged or felt awkward in a movement or group training session? Do you go to a Pilates or yoga class? Too busy for meditation?
In order to get more fit and change our body, we really need to exercise our “areas of opportunities” (weak spots) and ones that challenge us. When we go workout solo, we usually do the same routine or similar exercises that we are confident in performing. Often the individuals who need meditation or yoga relaxation session are the ones lifting heavy weights and don’t like yoga. Then the people that only do yoga actually could benefit from one or two high intensity interval training workout per week.
Personally I am not confident in box jumps but I know I need to work on them. Also I have extremely tight hips but I tend to avoid pigeon pose or other hip openers as they are uncomfortable for me. Instead I should work on building up to box jumps and get confidence in jumping up higher platforms. I need to spend longer time in yoga working on my hips as well as work on the foam roller. I am really great at single arm rows, chest press and arm exercises!
We all need a qualified trainer to train us on our “areas of opportunities” and challenge on the exercises we “don’t like”. I also try to take one of the Fitness Forward group training sessions, so I do the exercises that I won’t necessarily do on my own. I can easily go for a swim, bike or run but I know my body needs interval fast twitch muscle exercises and strength plus more yoga and Pilates. Set up a new fitness routine each month. Do something once a week that is challenging for you and take you out of your comfort zone.
When I opened Fitness Forward Studio in 2010, my goal was to open an “”all in one studio” and offer my signature group training “all in one workout”. I truly believe we all need strength training, sport training, balance, speed, Pilates, yoga and functional strength training. But we don’t have enough time in the day to fit everything we need to do plus workout. Come try FF studio for private, semi-private or group training and get the results you have been looking for years. Our secret…clean eating nutrition combined with a balanced exercise program.
