In this episode, Matt Bouback joins Debbie to discuss training, fuelling, and performance for the spartan race athlete. He is a Kion coach who had always been involved with fitness, but after landing a job with an Italian company, became overweight and knew he had to get back into training. This led to him opening his own facility.
Matt hated running but wanted something with high intensity that required savage training. He says that the beauty of spartan races is that they are not strictly aerobic. Matt describes various components of spartan races and one of the obstacles he particularly enjoys facing.
Spartan races require a unique type of training, so Debbie asks Matt to explain how he directs his clients. He talks about what to eat day-to-day as a spartan athlete and his preferred diet in the weeks leading up to an event. We also hear his view on fat-adapted athletes as spartan race participants.
