Does your life feel a little more stressful these days? 2020 is a crazy year and a historic time of our lives.
My life as I knew it drastically changed in March 2013 from living my life as a race. Chronic stress accumulated and resulted in a domino effect of internal breakdown of body systems- or as we say as an FDN Practitioner- I was experiencing “METABOLIC CHAOS®”. I didn’t change my life around enough, as I am discovering now during “Covid-19” what “slowing down” really means and living life as a journey!
I shared my personal experiences, struggles and learning opportunities in my book “LIFE IS NOT A RACE: It is a Journey” back in 2015 so I could help other driven and ambitious high performing individuals avoid becoming broken and burned out from the inside out.
Recently, I have had clients come to me with weight gain, anxiety, depression, high blood pressure and other symptoms related to CHRONIC STRESS or “METABOLIC CHAOS”!
Are you watching the news daily on television? Reading the newspapers and social media updates?
You may need to “unplug” and set guidelines how how much information you digest each day as it may be overloading your “beaker of stress” and leading to health problems.
Are you constantly living in fear and confused on what is real news? The media may be telling you conflicting information, especially on different channels plus influenced by politics. Who is funding who?
I always say… “follow the money” and look at the scientific data- what reserach do we have? What to we really know about how the body works and specifically how the immune system works?
I obviously get angry and fired up from political medical news and updates as well as social media “fake” news or stories. To take care of my own health, I had to eliminate television news with politically influenced stories as well as Facebook news related to CV19. My stress level was increasing daily and I am now aware of when to respond to my own “RED FLAGS”. Less is more.
I also recently had to listen to my body and keep my workouts shorter- more walk/run intervals than long non-stop slow running as well as more enjoyable scenic bike riding in the beautiful mountains of North San Diego (summer Airbnb rental). Less is more.

Another thought …
Food is medicine…you are WHAT you eat but also what you are able to digest and absorb. If we are eating while multi-tasking, rushing and stressed out from the current media story of the day- well then we are not going to digest our food properly. CHRONIC external stress accumulates and leads to a domino effect of internal breakdown and burn out of the body systems if left unresolved.
If you are living life as a race and constantly “running from a lion”- then you may benefit from implementing a few simple (and free) breathing exercises to help you stop, pause and reset.

- What are some reasons for high blood pressure?
- Do you have sinus congestion or a runny nose?
- Do you have cold hands and feet?
- Do you breathe through your mouth?
- Do you live or work in a polluted area?
- Do you smoke?
- Is your body “dirtied up” with stress and toxins?
I find that a “dirty” or “born with dirty” NOS3 Gene may struggle with cardiovascular health conditions as per Dr. Ben Lynch and DIRTY GENES.
Dr. Ben Lynch describes in his DIRTY GENES book that the primary function of the NOS3 gene influences the production of nitric oxide – which plays a major role in heart health including blood flow and blood vessel formation.
Your genes can get “dirty” from chronic stress including poor nutrition, sleep habits, toxins and chemical exposure.
Dr. Ben Lynch talks about stress neurotransmitters…
- The increase the demands of your glutathione and methlyation.
- Both gluathione and methylation are needed to support NOS3 gene.
- Increased stress also incrased susceptibility to infections- which use up a ton of arginine and glutathione
- The competition for needed biochemicals further reduces the amounts available for your NOS3 gene – making it “dirty”
- A common consequence of stress is rapid and shallow breathing
- Insufficient oxygen is the fastest way to “dirty” your NOS3 gene
- Proper breathing is the fastest way to clean it up.
