A few thoughts today as I drive back from my Masters Swim Workout in Solana Beach. My new house is 25-minutes away from the pool but I don’t mind driving here as the drive along Del Dios Highway towards Rancho Santa Fe then into Solana beach is peaceful. It is a time for me to listen to podcasts and get some time to reflect on life!

Intuitive fasting. Intuitive eating. Intuitive training.

If you eat right for your metabolic type – you should feel energetic, satiated and improved focus – plus you are not hungry for hours!
If you eat wrong for your metabolic type then you probably feel cranky, sluggish, bloated, gassy, and irritable – plus you don’t feel full and want to keep eating!
Fasting becomes unintenional if you eat the right foods for your body – when you are METABOLICALLY FLEXIBLE!
Intermittent fasting, low carb and exercise… is all good in the right dose. Learn from my personal story. I was doing lots of endurance training, strength training, intervals, yoga, fasted workouts, “Bulletproof” coffee, low carb meals, keto and more – but I still became BROKEN, BURNED OUT and GAINED WEIGHT!

- More is not better.
- Less is sometimes best.
- The Goldilocks Effect…
- Not to high… not too much
- Not to low…not too little.
- Just the right amount in for YOUR individual needs- to create a positive response!
Our body thrives when in balance – or specifically Homeostasis.
Our body functions at its optimal levels when all of our systems work together as an orchestra!
If one member of the “orchestra” is off tune or out of service then we experience a domino effect of health imbalances, dysfunction and dysregulation- the opposite of balance, function and regulation!
In order to REPAIR-REBUILD-RESTORE the WHOLE you in my individualized health detective program we need to identify the WHY… why is their inflammation?

What are the root CAUSES (as it is never just one thing)
WE need to CALM any imbalances and CALM hidden internal sources of CHRONIC stress.
What do you eat to burn fat?
We say “Eat fat to burn fat… eat sugar to burn sugar” (glucose) – is what I used to say as a basic summary.
Burning fat also depends on your level of chronic stressors, WHEN you are eating, HOW you are eating, WHY you are eating – along with WHAT you are eating.
TEST and not guess WHAT to eat and WHY with well-chosen functional lab testing as Vibrant Wellness Food Zoomers, GI Map or the BiomeFx microbiome test.
Just a reminder that FAT burning should be our go to main fuel tank and carbohydrates/glucose/glycogen should be our back up emergency storage fuel tank.
Metabolic Flexiblity should be our goal.
Intermittent fasting should be non-intentional if you are eating right for your metabolic type and your hunger/satiety hormoens are working (grehlin and leptin).
We should be either “FEASTings or FASTing”.
Don’t be stuck in the non-stop FEAST mode… or FASTING too long either.
More is not always better…especially for those high performing, driven, ambitious individuals.
WE are all bio-individuals with different genetics, ancestral backgrounds, life stressors, hidden internal chronic stressors and food sensitivities.
You need to first learn how to listen to your body and it’s signals.
Remember CHRONIC stress impacts all efforts to reduce CHRONIC inflammation… so stop living life as a race and start working on building new healthy lifestyle habits as with the eight elements of THE WHOLESTIC METHOD program!

- Nutrition
- Exercise
- Sleep
- Stress reduction
- Movement (outside time in nature and vitamin D!)
- Digestion and Gut Health (Microbiome = Immune System)
- Hydration
- Happiness, Gratitude, PLAY and laughter
