Leave your race for race day…not daily life! Part Two

Part Two of what happens when we get to the start line of our “RACE” each day instead of a few times a year.

What happens if we our over stimulating our HPA Axis?  Too much of anything is what again?

Dr. Wilson of www.adrenalfatigue.org explains how too much of stress hormone cortisol leads to chronically high level leading to blood sugar dysregulation and insulin resistance by:

  • high blood sugar (glucose) levels
  • increases insulin to be secreted by the pancreas (response of elevated blood sugar levels)
  • excess sugar that is not needed as the “threat” is not require a physical response then excess glucose doesn’t get used up or burned for energy
  • cells become insulin resistance as a result of constant stress -constantly raised blood sugar-constant release of insulin (learn more in my blogs about the PALS- pancreas, adrenals and the liver)

Now with our chronic stress and constant over stimulation of the HPA Axis… we start to experience high levels of circulating glucose, insulin and cortisol.  Now we are disrupting our …

  • sleep cycles (melatonin-cortisol circadium rhythm)
  • digestive functions
  • cell building
  • cell repair

The excess cortisol that results in chronically high levels of blood sugar/glucose and insulin levels now ends up being stored in the fat cells creating that unexplained “spare tire”- no matter what type of food and exercise plan you follow!  As we continue to get to the “start line” each morning and reach the “finish line” in the evening, the over stimulation of the stress response system creates more problems as …

  • high blood sugar
  • insulin resistance
  • high blood pressure
  • excess belly fat
  • elevated triglycerides
  • excess inflammation

Overtime the well goes dry…we go from too much cortisol to low cortisol levels as are adrenal resources become depleted from excessive demand.  Now we experience fatigue and LOW levels of cortisol so we feel sluggish, fat and tired.  The adrenal glands and the stress response team (HPA Axis) can’t respond to the threat just as a fire truck can’t put out the flames of the fire… there is no “water” left to put out the fire.  Now the conditions from high cortisol only progress to the next phase…

  • exacerbate pre-existing acute illness
  • chronic illness conditions as-
    • hypoglycemia
    • allegies
    • asthma
    • auto-immune disorders
    • inflammation
    •  hypothyroidism
    • PMS
    • menopausal diffiiculties
    • addictions
    • fatigue in the morning and afternoon
    • brain fog and memory issues

Do you want to balance your blood sugar so you can start burning fat and lose weight?  Do you want to feel more energy during the entire day and sleep through the night?  Do you want to laugh again and feel HAPPY from the inside out?
