As I write this article, New Year’s Day is two days away. January 1st is the not only the first day of the New Year but often day one of everyone’s New Year Resolutions. How many years have you written New Year’s Resolutions but broke them in a few weeks or month?
This year we are going to create resolutions that we can reach and maintain.
How?
Let’s start by creating realistic goals. What do you want to improve about you or change in your life?
For example.
Step One: Establish my goals for 2016:
1. To be more patient when talking to people.
2. To be more positive and grateful everyday.
3. To have no debt.
4. To create an online “WHOLESTIC” coaching business with my sugar detox manual and training peaks.
NOW I have established four goals…one of them I say every year (debt-budget) but this time I understand I need to create a plan or roadmap how I am going to achieve my goals in 2016.
Step Two: Establish mini sub goals for each major goal:
My examples:
1. Patience:
a. Be aware of triggers when I lose my patience and write in down in my journal (not enough sleep!)
b. Think about my answer before I speak…take time to answer people
c. Take a moment and breathe when getting frustrated – usually when I am not communicating correctly and explaining what I mean to say.
2. Positive:
a. I need to give more positive feedback to clients rather than only correct what they are doing wrong…rephrase what they are doing right and how they can make the exercise even more rewarding or beneficial.
b. Review my day with my husband starting with the positive parts and then “areas of opportunities” that I could improve or do better in every day.
c. Continue writing in my “gratitude journal” every night before bed followed by goals for the next day.
3. Be debt free: always a personal goal for myself as I don’t do well on a budget
a. Take cash out each week for spending money and groceries. Spend only that amount.
b. Deposit money away each month for my 401k and investments. Set amount for auto-deposit.
c. Put money in our piggy bank for our travel fund every week.
d. Stay away from Amazon and favorite stores… limited spending on unnecessary items!
Step three: Reminders to stay on track
1. Write 2016 goals on the big white board in the office
2. Set up auto-reminder on Iphone schedule to review goals with Neal
3. Write goals out on Iphone notes and create trigger words for reminders of goals (gratitude, attitude, patience and wealth)
Now of course I have other health and fitness goals but weight loss is always a goal post holidays as we over indulge slightly or less strict on the food rules during Christmas as the holidays only happen once a year! So I will start our sugar detox in January that I do with clients for 21 days… eliminate sugar and grains. I will eat how I enjoying eating without the treats at the coffee shop on vacation or my high fat treats I made for the holidays. Main goal is to focus on eating lots of vegetables, healthy fats and quality proteins each day…eating when full and stop when satisfied.
I shared my goals and road map with you…now your turn!
How can you create goals and improve yourself in 2016? Stick with it!
