Ironman World Championships… is always a part of me!

It is the 40th anniversary of Ironman Hawaii this Saturday in Kona, Hawaii.  That is pretty amazing.  I am excited to share that I was able to get a media/press pass for this year’s big event for my podcast and blog – The WHOLE TRI–ATHLETE.  I want to share the event that means so much to me as it does for thousands of other triathletes who have cross the finish line in Kona, Hawaii.

Kona is a special place to me- magical actually and filled with memories. I started racing Ironman in 2001 (Ironman Canada) and then started to qualify for the Ironman World Championship starting in 2004.  I raced Ironman triathlons on/off 2001 until 2012…until my “adrenal exhaustion” hit in March 2013.  I haven’t been able to race again.  I have done 15 ironmans and qualified for IM hawaii 5 times.  I never talked about it or bragged about my triathlon career experiences or results. Until I wrote my book LIFE IS NOT A RACE…  LIFE IS A JOURNEY.  PACE the WHOLE YOU with The WHOLESTIC METHOD.

I love this week.  Every year that I miss experiencing Ironman Hawaii week in Kona, I feel sad and missing out on this annual event.  Ironman week and race day is like Christmas.  You get so excited and feel all the energy for this one day …this one major life changing event that occurs once a year.  Then Sunday morning it is over.

Even though I am not able to race (yet), I still love being apart of this race, industry and sport.  To connect with other professionals, athletes and companies who share the passion for endurance sports as well as health, nutrition and elements of THE WHOLESTIC METHOD.  I am sad when I am not here.  Even though I am not feeling “special” as a competitor (it is a pretty amazing, magical experience and feeling to race here!)… I can’t not be here.  Ironman Hawaii and Kona, Hawaii are my happy place.  I get chills on my skin and tears in my eyes on race day.  The excitement builds up all week long just as Christmas for that one special memorable day!

I am on a mission to share my story to help other athletes avoid going through the adrenal exhaustion/HPA Axis dysregulation that has put me on the side lines of Ironman Hawaii instead of in the race.  I don’t have cancer or any type of life threatening disease but just what I call side effects of living life with chronic stress.  Chronic Busy-ness leads to chronic problems.

So I am here this week in Kona, Hawaii to share the race with you and begin to spread the word of LIFE IS NOT A RACE and The WHOLESTIC METHOD.  Follow along my journey and share the experience of the Ironman race day!

She has competed in over fifteen Ironman Triathlons and over twenty marathons including Hawaii Ironman World Championship five times and the Boston Marathon numerous times with a PR of 3:12. Debbie Potts has been in the fitness industry for over twenty-five years and a competitive endurance athlete for twenty years.  Along her journey, she has accomplished many goals including being nominated as one of the top one hundred best trainers in the U.S. by Men’s Journal in 2004 and 2005 as well as participating in fifteen Ironman Triathlons – five of them were the Hawaii World Ironman Championship.  Debbie has owned and operated her own fitness studio in Bellevue Washington since 2010 to offer an “all in one” fitness studio – now including The WHOLESTIC Method Services including The WHOLE Athlete coaching program, Infrared Therapy Treatment and Nutritional Therapy program to transform the WHOLE person from the inside out.

Debbie has played various roles in the fitness industry for the past 25 years in Bellevue, WA including fitness management, top personal trainer, group and small group personal training, cycling instructor, yoga, Pilates Mat, run, triathlon coach, CHEK Holistic Lifestyle Coach, Superhuman Coach, Metabolic Efficiency Technician, and a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner.  She has implemented heart rate training, heart rate variability training and metabolic efficiency testing into her coaching services over the years. Debbie does her best to walk the talk as she was a competitive top age group triathlete, marathoner, and cyclist but since 2013, she has been recovering and rebuilding from Adrenal Exhaustion and burnout.   In November 2016, she shared her personal story called in a book called “LIFE IS NOT A RACE” to help others avoid going through what she has from “living life as a daily race”.  In the past, I have been on the Mark Allen Elite Triathlon team 2004-2013 and placed top ten overall in numerous Ironman triathlons.  Debbie’s passion and purpose now is to help transform the WHOLE Athlete, of all levels, to learn how to become fat burner, get off the blood sugar roller coaster – and of course reduce stressors from the inside and out!   She offers ‘The WHOLESTIC Method’ 5-day and 30-day total transformation detox, repair and rebuild programs to help clients improve their health at a cellular level.  Debbie Potts is the host of ‘The WHOLE Athlete’ weekly podcast to help athletes of all levels perform their best in sports and life with elements of ‘The WHOLESTIC Method’.

Chronic Stress Response = chronic output of the stress hormone cortisol.  The constant activation of our HPA Axis creates havoc on our body systems including hormone imbalance and blood sugar balance.
