I have a client that has lost over 40 pounds since the beginning of the year and the first 20-30 pounds were done without much exercise…only walking. He was following my Phase One 5-day Jumpstart Challenge then continued to Phase Two for a few months and now transitioning to the Phase 3: Maintenance 80/20 program. He was ready to make the changes in his life and commit to improving his relationship to food. No only did he lose weight quickly, but it stayed off as well as he lost his cravings for carbs and sugars (including over eating). Stress levels are still high with his job but we is learning how to take breaks in his day to reset and recharge as well as taking the right supplements/nutrients his body is needing for his busy life based on his Nutritional Therapy program results.
As a personal trainer and health coach, I always love the quote “You can’t out exercise a bad diet”.
Just because you trained and raced a half marathon, marathon or triathlon…that doesn’t give you the hall pass to eat anything and everything just because you just did a hard workout. So many times I have coached clients for losing weight or a race/event but they struggled with losing weight. Usually women as we have a more challenging time losing weight. Nutritional Therapy makes a difference when we create an individualized plan for your body based on your bio-individual needs and imbalancces… BUT you must be self-motivated to stick with the plan and commit to program. Once clients see the weight fall off, then they are more motivated to continue with the new eating program and “The WHOLESTIC Method” lifestyle.
Do you give yourself permission to eat whatever you want after a workout? Even if it is a “cheat” food?
I know plenty of athletes training for a race or event that actually gained weight.
I also know plenty of clients who have gained weight or not lost any weight even if they are meeting with a personal trainer 2-3 times per week.
There are a lot of hours in the day and a lots of days in the week.
Again…you can’t out exercise a bad diet.
Nor can you skip on sleep, be stressed out all day and everyday and have poor digestion (which often these elements each impact one another).

Often we need to work on slowing down, focus and uplug so we can digest our food in a parasympathetic nervous system state as well as of course eating a whole food, nutrient dense food plan often that is low-carb, high-fat or even keto for most individuals as most of us were raised as carbohydrate addicts and fat phobic.
As you can read in my past blogs- STRESS impacts everything including your ability to lose fat weight as well as digestion, immune system, gain muscle and blood sugar dysregulation. I shared my personal story and challenges with chronic stress as a competitive athletes -and five years later I am still struggling with my weight, muscle strength, fat loss and running performance!
