Do you workout more or less in the summer time?
Some parents find it difficult to get their workouts in when the kids are out of school…other people love to workout in the outdoors so they workout more frequently.
If you are one of those inviduals that loses “their time” in the summer when kids are home from school and family vacations are more frequent then you may want to look at alternative ways to keep your fitness level up and body weight down.
Solutions?
1. Wake up and workout… schedule early morning workouts! Get up and get out before the kids are awake.
2. Do a run or walk with intervals… try adding 10 x 10 second hill repeats at the end of your workout or stair repeats. Try running hard 30 seconds then walk or easy jog 30 seconds for 10 minutes.
3. Order popular, effective and time efficient home workouts from beachbody (makers P90x and Insanity!). They have a new P90x3 that I love plus new “piyo” and “T25”.
4 . Plan outdoor adventures as a new hike, stand up paddle boarding, bike ride or park.
5. Schedule family workouts that everyone can benefit from in a short amount of time.
Examples:
Three rounds. Set timer for 45 second intervals with 15 seconds rest.
1. Bear crawls
2. Walking lunges
3. Jump squats with 1/4 or 1/2 turn
4. Mt. Climbers
5. Speed Skaters
6. Partner planks (one holds plank and the other hops over or crawls under!)
7. Leap frog or tire hops
8. Spiderman pushups
OR… do a workout for time. “AMRAP” = as many rounds as possible.
15 0r 20 minutes.
1. Prisoner squats x 20
2. Planks with “high five” x 10 each hand
3. Lunge on each leg x 15 per leg
4. Push ups x 10
5. Squat jumps x 25
6. Tricep bench dips x 20
7. Speed skater x 30
8. Plank with jumping jack legs x 20
9. Single leg squat and reach x 10 each leg
10. Star jumps or jumping squat jacks or seal jack x 20
