Jarod Cogswell is a new friend that I connected with at the Todd Durkin Mastermind retreat for fitness professionals.
Jarod… tell us about yourself and your business http://enterpriseathlete.com/
Jarod Cogswell: “I am the founder of Enterprise Athlete in Portland, Oregon. I am a business leaders and team members how to approach their jobs like an elite athlete trains for their sport.
As a business consultant and coach, I advise service industry owners and operators (with an emphasis on fitness operations) who want to get significant projects moving and spur teams into action. Few things satisfy me more than being able to maximize an operation’s true profit potential and boost team culture.
My new book and approach to business is called “WORK Like an Athlete” It was created from my own experiences in sports, but mostly as someone who has worn nearly every hat in the fitness business for the last 20+ years, including 14 years as General Manager at one of the most successful fitness club operations on the West Coast.Today, I have the pleasure of helping start-ups and turnaround situations in the fitness and hospitality industry get smarter about every aspect of their business.
This is an exciting time in fitness. It’s more competitive and diverse than ever. While our mission is to increase the fitness population, it’s going to take better business models and working teams to support our credibility as an industry. It’s time to WORK like an Athlete! Allow me to show you and your team how it’s done…
What is “212 degrees” mean?
How do we become the “Spark” each day?
How do we train or work like an athlete…how we approach our training, racing, worklife and family life?
Jarod…WORK LIKE AN ATHLETE APPROACH: The“WORK Like an Athlete” philosophy arose from my excitement for fitness, thousands of learning experiences in the industry, countless hours of mountain rescue training, as well as, 200+ alpine climbs in beautiful and rugged areas such as Mount Hood, Mount Rainier, North Cascade Range, the Tetons, the High Sierra and more. Each climb demands absolute focus and at times, the ability to embrace the suffering that comes with it. I have to get in sync with my climbing partner(s) to plan ahead and adjust to the conditions we’ve been presented. Every time I get to the top, it feels just like the first time. I never take it for granted because in reality, I’m only half way there. Sometimes, getting down can be the scariest part of all. Those of us who want to be top competitors in our industry must thrive and endure through the mountain of challenges our work can present. – See more at: http://enterpriseathlete.com/approach/#sthash.qMkJIOQs.dpuf
“We need discipline, a game plan and commitment. But more than anything, we need to feel a sense of accomplishment for everything that took place to reach this achievement. As a personal trainer early in my fitness career, I met my passion for helping others. I loved showing clients how to gauge their progress and get results. When they could see, track and feel how they were doing, it revolutionized their lives! If I could do this with one person, I questioned how my influence might affect an entire team… a whole company. Since that time, I’ve studied great athletes and compared them to great business leaders and mentors. Merging the strategies of both professions sparks progress (and personal satisfaction) better than anything I’ve encountered. Each player’s consistent execution is ultimately what wins the ball game. In addition to well-planned systems and efficient procedures, everyone needs to participate actively to move the organization forward. The“WORK Like an Athlete” Business Approach is Designed for: Fitness clubs who want to exceed profit targets on a consistent basis. Business professionals who want to be top competitors in the industry and improve their mental game around work. Entrepreneurs who are passionate about what they do, but need to learn how to keep their business healthy and fit. Self-starting individuals who have a high standard of excellence in their work and lives, and love to have fresh ideas about how to stay engaged. Business owners and leaders who want to objectively track their progress and maintain momentum to accomplish their goals. Teams with high standards and wish to stay motivated towards their vision. – See more at: http://enterpriseathlete.com/approach/#sthash.qMkJIOQs.dpuf
