Debbie has a conversation with her friend Shannon Treybig who is a personal trainer, triathlon coach and accomplished age group triathlete.
Shannon and Debbie both have similar backgrounds in fitness and competeting in triathlons. They talk for their first time about how they started participating in Ironman Triathlons in 2001 and 2002… and why they still love triathlons in 2015!
Why do people sign up for an Ironman distance triathlon? Do they realize it involves a 2.4 mile swim, 113 mile bike ride and 26.2 mile run? I agree with Shannon that people sign up for an Ironman Triathlon because they want to cross the finish line and hear “YOU ARE AN IRONMAN!”
Who hasn’t gotten chills and goosebumps watching the finishers the last hour at an Ironman triathlon? The finish line is very emotional to watch and leaves most everyone with the belief that they can do an Ironman triathon as well. Maybe this is why more and more people continue to register for their first Ironman Triathlon and then continue to do another then another year after year. Many people are happy just finishing the Ironman and hearing their name. Not everyone strives to be a top age grouper and podium finisher.
Do you want to do an Ironman?
If you have done an Ironman already… are you motivated and driven to do another Ironman?
What motivates you?
