Part Two: The Three Steps

Here are the three steps that I did for myself and now I take my Health (RE) Building coaching clients through in my packages so they can become fat burners, optimize their health and improve their performance in daily life activities.

Step one: Determine which foods are best for your unique body

  • We work on WHAT you eat
  • When you eat
  • Why you are eating
  • How you are eating

We are all unique, so we should eat for what is best for our body and microbiome.  Not all foods react the same in our bodies.  If you wear a CGM – continuous glucose monitors as NutriSense you can really learn about how foods, even healthy foods, impact your blood glucose levels.  Ideally, we can measure our insulin levels -but some day we should be able to measure that as well as our glucose and ketones.

Besides wearing a CGM for 14-days or longer as NutriSense, we can also measure our glucose and ketones with Keto Mojo, track our heart rate (Coca Pulse Test), take a food sensitivity and Zoomer test (Vibrant Wellness or MRT) and take the Metabolic Typing Diet quiz. 

I also like to have clients track what they are eating and how their body feels to determine how to adjust their macronutrients using a food and symptom journal.  We want to make sure our bodies are getting the nutrients it needs but also able to digest and absorb the nutrients. 

Often, we feel tired, bloated or gassy after we eat, so keeping a food and symptom log can help us identify which foods are best for us to eat or to avoid – or how to adjust macronutrients.  Ideally, we eat meals with the right foods and the right mix of macronutrients that give us energy, provides satiety and eliminates cravings – we end up eating less and not focusing on food! 

Once we can identify which foods to avoid -then we can feel energetic and satisfied again!  I used to feel hungry all the time after I ate a meal – even though I was eating “healthy” salads but then I discovered I am a fast oxidizer and do best with higher protein and fat with some non-starchy vegetables.  I used to eat so many carbohydrates, even healthy, but ended up not feeling satisfied and ate more the rest of the day! 

Step #2:  Reveal H.I.D.D.E.N. sources of CHRONIC stressors that are impacting our entire body systems.

Our body is very complex and when one system is off- the other systems are impacted as major domino effect.  I love the analogy of an orchestra and all players need to be playing in sync to create beautiful music – or the outcome is quite different.  Also, think of your body as a car and if one part of the car is out of alignment or not functioning at optimal level then the entire car performance is impacted.  Each player or part has a specific job to achieve – and all the other parts depend on them to work together to perform at optimal levels. 

In our investigative coaching program to help individuals feel their best, live their best and perform their best in live each day, we choose functional lab tests to collect clues of sources of HIDDEN internal chronic stress via blood, saliva, stool and urine tests.  These functional lab tests will help us reveal imbalances and help form an impression on what is actually going on “under the hood” to bring the body back to balance.

I was exhausted of seeing multiple doctors to help me understand why I was gaining weight, struggling with fatigue each day and experiencing odd digestive issues.  From my experience and journey, lab tests the doctors run under our insurance for “health check-ups”, measures different aspects of the body as compared to functional lab tests that we run as certified Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioners.

The functional lab tests help us dive deep into your hormones, immune, digestion, detoxification, energy and nervous systems so then we can create an individualized plan to help restore the WHOLE you back to your ideal self via diet, rest, exercise, stress reduction, supplementation and toxin removal. 

Step #3:  Self Care for the WHOLE you and Course Correct as needed!

Along your transformational journey, we need to learn how to self-care, or how I keep saying each day lately – “self love”. 

Do you love yourself enough to make the right health building choices that will improve your happiness, energy and vitality every day? 

Do you strive to improve the aging process? 

Will you stop using your age as an excuse when you don’t feel your best self?

Our body hold the answers we need- but we just need to learn how to listen to the feedback and learn our “red flags”.  We so often are disconnected to how we feel and we have lost the ability to hear what our body is asking for each day. 

Instead of searching on the outside for answers, learn how to search on the inside for answers.  This may sound odd to you but it works and I believe the answer to my own health journey healing process would have been a lot faster if I understood my body signals and red flags. Now I want you to learn how to pay attention to your own body signals and how you are feeling from the inside out!  Tune in to you and learn from those clues- then you know how to adjust and course correct as needed to continue down your health building life long journey. 

Have you noticed how your body feels after eating the wrong foods?  You may get a headache or feel “spinny” or you have a bloated belly.

Have you noticed when you worked out too hard or maybe too long and your sleep is horrible that night?

Have you noticed when you got really angry with a family member or friend – or frustreated with the media (or government!)?  How did your body handle and respond to that stressor?  What if it was every day as in 2020? 

These are signals or red flags that your body is telling you to pay attention and self-care or else we may be on our way to experience other more serious symptoms – leading to “METABOLIC CHAOS®”.

Our genes are not our destiny but it is how we keep them “Clean” or “Dirty” as Dr. Ben Lynch disuccess in his DIRTY GENES book and StrateGene report.

I used to feel so sluggish and heavy on a run workout that I should have just walked instead of pushed through it.  Then my sleep at night would be horrible if I did too much exercise that day and not enough recovery time! 

So many days I would think to myself- “I wish I knew back then what I know now” but then maybe my experience and healing journey will inspire other people to avoid going through what I went through starting back in 2013.  Perhaps my experience defined my purpose and my purpose has become my passion and now my passion is my mission!

Do you feeling stressed when going to sleep? Stressed about getting good sleep!?

I look back to the years building up to my “burnout and breakdown” in March 2013, as I shared in my book “LIFE IS NOT A RACE”, and the red flags were obvious but somehow I didn’t see them back then.  I was too busy being a driven, ambitious, high performing individual that I didn’t have the time (or take the time) to notice I was over-doing life and my body was trying to tell me to “push-pause” and recalibrate.

We all have experienced changes in our mood, body and energy- but we accept them as the new “normal” and just believe that this new “normal” is part of the aging process. 

I disagree. 

Instead, I believe we need to embrace the aging process and make adjustments so we are thriving as we age.  I know I plan to live my best life and feel my best self in the second half of my life!  Now I have the tools and tricks to adjust and correct to get back on track- I know now how to listen to my body and learn to “feed” it what it needs.  Self care is self love.

Perhaps in your life you may need to change your schedule or limit screen time … or block off time “breakfast, lunch and dinner” meal times to make MOVE times.  Sometimes we need to adjust our sleep schedule so we can get to bed earlier and wake up earlier to fit in sunrise yoga, meditative walk or going for a hike.

Quality of LIfe!

You can learn how to take care of the WHOLE you to improve performance and longevity.  Stress is not a bad thing- it is beneficial in small doses as exercise intervals, intermittent fasting or cold thermogenesis.  CHRONIC stress that fills up our “beaker of stress” from external and internal hidden sources is what we need to monitor. 

Chronic stress will impact the WHOLE you including your ability to burn fat, improve immunity and gut health.

In just THREE simple steps, you can begin to repair, rebuild and restore the WHOLE you back to your optimal self …but do you LOVE yourself enough to make your health a priority and take ownership?
