You may have read about my personal journey with my addiction to busy-ness and always packing more into one day leading to my “adrenal exhaustion”. My story is available to the world on Amazon- LIFE IS NOT A RACE…IT IS A JOURNEY because I am on a mission to help other people avoid going through what I had happen to me starting in 2013. But my story didn’t start in March 2013 when I couldn’t find an ounce of energy to take another pedal stroke- it happened years before that day.
We often push ourselves too hard and don’t know when to stop- or when to say NO THANK YOU to another obligation or another event or workout!
When should you stop saying YES and start saying NO? When is your “cup” too full that if you add anything else to your cup or plate you will be overfilling and creating an internal domino effect of health dysfunction.
My story make not resonate with everyone but I tried to share my “red flags” or warning signs that I was doing too much over the years with the intention to discover when and where I my life from the inside out was starting to unravel. I thought I was super fit, strong, happy and successful – following my passions and mission BUT I was creating more harm than good for my health internally. I had no idea what my future would bring to me back in 2012.
Now I am more aware of when I need to stop and reset which may include just having a 15-20 minute nap or rest in the afternoon instead of going right from work to home for my afternoon break or workout. I don’t commit to evening events as I know I need my sleep if I am going to have a positive and energetic day as I wake up around 4:30 AM during the week. My body and mind slows down around 8:00PM at night – or even 7:30PM depending on the time of year!
Sometimes you have to hit a low to realize you need to prioritize health. You health is your wealth…or is it your health is your weatlh!? Either way – you eventually learn to say NO thank you to one more meeting, social event or workout and instead say YES to a session in the Sunlighten Infrared or going home to hangout with your family one early evening. Or doing yoga at home or going for an evening walk.
I used to leave my house in the morning during the week before 5AM and not get back home until 7:30pm. My old life- I used to fit in YOGA to relax and improve my mobility on the evenings I didn’t have clients so I would go to yoga 5:30pm-7pm. The result was getting home late every night. Now I get home around 4pm on those nights and do my own 30-minute yoga at home. Less rushing during the day and cutting my schedule tight helps me reduce stressors and anxiety.
If I plan to fit too much in one day and over schedule myself- I often cancel or reschedule sessions or meetings so I don’t feel rushed and overwhelmed. I learned the hard way – so now I am on a personal mission to help other athletes of all levels to improve their health from the inside out with The WHOLESTIC Method program. My podcast The WHOLE Athlete is another outlet for me to share information with other athletes how to train for longevity and performance. If you are a Type A personality as myself – we need to stop, pause and rest more often as we have the personality to be over achievers and over train in life which leads to under recovery and over stressing our body systems.
The main stress hormone CORTISOL is produced after the hypothalamus senses an emergency alert or threat- then relays the message to the pituitary gland to tell the adrenal gland to respond to that threat (HPA Axis). When we are under chronic stress, remember a little stress is good for us as is building resiliancy, but too much of anything can be toxic. More is not better! We have to find the right amount of stress that we can tolerate that creates a positive impact on our health. Chronic stress products excess cortisol – which lowers our immune system, impacts our sleep, increases our blood sugar and disrupts our digestive system. Sympathetic dominance. HPA Axis dysregulation. Adrenal Fatigue. Adrenal Exhaustion.
- Every stress response is a blood sugar response.
- If stress is on…digestion is off
- Stress dampens the immune system.
CHRONIC STRESS impacts all areas of our life -resulting in decreased performance in daily LIFE and SPORTS. So if you want to transform The WHOLE you from the inside out then start training the WHOLE Athlete with The WHOLESTIC Method for longevity and performance.
I will be doing my weekly Thursday solo podcast on this topic as well as speaking engagements as on Jimmy Moore’s Low-Carb Cruise this June 2019 and more to come! Stay connected!
