Burn the most fat in 30 minutes or 60 minutes?

How to get more results from your workouts… with our 30 minute efficient Small Group Personal Training at Fitness Forward Studio.

Why is 30 minutes of exercise more efficient than 60 minutes?

We are busy and when we are overly scheduled then our workouts are typically the first item on the list to be eliminated. Why? Do we think we might as well skip our workout if we don’t have two hours to devote to the treadmill or the elliptical then a circuit on the weight machines?

We should not focus on the time but rather the intensity of the workout. Our body responds more to the exercise intensity and variety of the workout session which is why at Fitness Forward Studio we offer 30-minute small group personal training and use the MYZONE system to track heart rate, time in the zone (effort-points) and calories burned.

We don’t need one hour to workout… or long slow duration on the cardio machines to get results if you want to train your body to become a fat burning machine. We not only want to burn calories during the workout session but for hours after the workout… we want to raise our metabolism for the next 24 hours.

Secret to an effective 30 minute workout session is the design… a variety and mixture of strength exercises mixed with cardio intervals at various heart rates. Go hard in the cardio blast in the “red zone” then recover with strength or mobility exercises in the “blue” or “green” zone. The next day your workout will be more green and blue zone by tracking effort with the MYZONE heart rate belt and app. Make your workout fun by always mixing up the workout program and working out with workout partners with similar goals and focus areas.

The strength exercises should be total body movements…instead of only sitting on a weight machine which doesn’t activate your stabilizers or connect your core with your body. Combine a squat with a bicep curl and an overhead press or stand on one leg to improve balance. Add in bodyweight exercises or cardio machines for cardio blasts… and track effort with your heart rate monitor or use the MYZONE program to reach yellow or red zone. Burpees, star jumps, speed skaters and Snowboarder jump turns really are effective! WARNING (and disclaimer)… Make sure you develop base and foundation before adding in higher intensity intervals). Repeat workout for 2-5 rounds or make a circuit format.

If you want to raise your metabolism post your workout session then add 2-3 interval training type of workouts per week… only do 30 minutes or else you are not working hard enough on the hard intervals! That is why my clients are now all encouraged wearing their heart rate monitor in our training sessions. Who doesn’t want to become a FAT BURNING MACHINE?

Next time we will work on our nutrition… even more important if you want to become a fat burner over a sugar burner. You can exercise all you want but you must change the way you eat. As they say… “You can’t out exercise a bad diet”.
