Are you DEhydrated or Hydrated?

Are you DEhydrated or Hydrated?

The weather heats up in August… are you staying hydrated this summer?

It’s getting HOT out – especially where we are staying for the summer in our Airbnb apartment in the mountains north of San Diego!ย  As we spend more time exercising in the outdoors as well as enjoying our new outdoor lifestyle – we are also finding it challnging to stay hydrated here!ย
As you sweat or lose fluids, you can easily become depleted in electrolytes. Many people rely on high-sugar sports drinks that are loaded with artificial flavors and colors. But these toxic ingredients are about the last thing your body wants when it needs to be replenished.

Myย solution: Seeking Health’sย Optimal Electrolytes are a MUCH healthier alternative to these artificial energy drinks, free from cane sugar and chemicals, and loaded with the minerals your body needs to re-hydrate (one of the main functions of electrolytes is improving water absorption by cells).*

Whether you need support for cycling, running, walking, chasing your kids around, or simply feeling energized throughout the day, electrolytes can help!*

Fortunately this month their “Optimal Electrolyte Seltzer Sticks” are ON SALE.

These handy stick packs can be taken on-the-go and enjoyed anytime you need a quick burst of energy.*ย  I recently purchased the cansiter to add a scoop of electrolytes to our water bottles for during the day as well as the sticks for our long bike rides on Saturdays.ย ย

Perhaps you are not cycling in the hot mountains where we are – but maybe you are out playing in the beautiful outdoors all day or on a long hike.

Hydration is key!

Key Benefits and Actions*

  • Diets containing foods that are good sources of potassium and low in sodium may reduce the risk of high blood pressure and stroke.
  • May help support healthy hydration and fluid balance*
  • May help support mitochondrial health*

How do you know if you are dehydrated?
We should be drinking about half our bodyweight in ounces of filtered pure water -plus more for any diuretics.ย ย

Signs of severe dehydration include

  • fatigue
  • thirst
  • dry skinย and lips
  • dark urine or decreased urine output
  • headaches
  • muscle cramps
  • lightheadedness
  • dizziness
  • syncope (fainting)
  • orthostatic hypotension (seeing “stars” when standing up)
  • heart palpitations

Here’s one way to test yourself:

  • Drink a large glass of water…
  • If you DO NOT have to urinate within 20 minutes โ€“ you may be dehydrated.
  • If you DO have to urinate soon after โ€“ you may be on the right road to healthy hydration

Your body needs water to create energy.
Energy within your body is called ATP (adenosine triphosphate).

In order for ATP to be used, water is needed in the process.

If you don’t have enough water in your cells โ€“ your body won’t make ATP efficiently.

(Learn more about this from Dr. Lynch โ€“ click here.)

How do you get sufficient water into your cells?

Through an electrical charge!

Electrolytes carry electrical charges to help the process of absorption.

Hydration is not simply drinking water โ€“ it is the process of causing something to ABSORB water.

Seeking Health’s Optimal Electrolyte helps you support healthy hydration and fluid balance.*

With added creatine and D-ribose, plus other important nutrients, this formula supports cellular maintenance as well as energy production:*

  • Creatine helps to supply energy to all cells as an integral component in ATP regeneration.*
  • D-ribose plays a critical role in generating energy for cells by supplying the body with ATP.*

Optimal Electrolyte

  • Electrolytes carry electrical charges and play a key role in maintaining cell membrane stability, enabling proper muscle function.
  • With added creatine, D-ribose and niacin, Optimal Electrolyte supports cellular maintenance as well as energy production.*
  • Creatine can be naturally produced in the human body and helps to supply energy to all cells as an integral component in ATP (adenosine triphosphate) regeneration.
  • Creatine may support muscular health, strength and speed training by providing cells with immediate ATP.
  • This function is also vitally important for supporting healthy cells in the heart muscle.*
  • D-ribose is a ubiquitous pentose sugar that may help support energy production and muscle recovery.
  • This is due to the critical role it plays in generating energy for cells.
  • Like creatine, D-ribose may support healthy cardiovascular function, as healthy heart function depends on a steady supply of ATP and nucleotides for energy.*
  • Niacin is added to support healthy blood flow, circulation, and metabolism.
  • This B vitamin is important for proper functioning of all cells, including the cells of the brain and nervous system.
  • Niacin has the well-known effect of causing vasodilation, often called the niacin โ€œflush,โ€ which is an opening of the small blood vessels (capillaries) for increased blood flow.*
