“GREAT WAYS TO LOSE WEIGHT”?

“GREAT WAYS TO LOSE WEIGHT!”… Do you believe everything you read?

As I was reading a “health” magazine on the plane the other day, I was surprised of all the misleading “weight loss” tips and diet plans the magazines offer.  Maybe most of the newest research is “underground” and the major companies, such as General Mills, are paying for advertisement, but to have misleading fat loss information (or lack of) only explains why our country is in an obesity epidemic!  The average consumer is told so much conflicting information on how to lose weight; diet and exercise… we often wonder what the right way is?

I do believe everyone’s body is different, based on their hormone levels and food history.  If you are like me, and many others, and ate a high carb diet with non-fat “food” substitutes for most of your life, our hormones levels are all out of whack.  This includes our appetite, hunger “Full button” and stress hormone cortisol.  I am talking about the fat storing hormone INSULIN, the hunger hormone LEPTIN and appetite regulating hormone GHRELIN.  If we eat an overabundance of refined carbohydrates (including many common “diet” and “healthy” foods in a package), we activate a surplus of INSULIN to lower the blood sugar levels.  Once the liver and muscle glycogen levels are “filled” up to their max levels, the rest of excess sugar in the blood is carried to the fat cells by INSULIN to be stored as FAT!  Hmmm…

If we look at a typical American “diet” plan, as in the magazines, we may lose weight, but are we losing FAT weight?  The suggested foods in the magazines are “low calorie” and “low fat”, but what makes the food lower in calories or fat?  Did you read the nutrition label and check out the ingredients?  You may be shocked to read the ingredient list is filled with chemicals and fillers plus the sugar/carbohydrate grams are increased just to make the foods taste better.  The “diet” foods that are to help us LOSE WEIGHT are the same foods causing the insulin levels and blood sugar roller coaster leading to increased FAT STORAGE.

As I read more articles and listen to podcast interviews on the underground research and the “Dark side of FAT LOSS” (follow SEAN CROXTEN at UNDERGROUND WELLNESS), I get more annoyed with “health” articles on “Best for low calorie” or “snacks” or “fiber”.  We are all victims.  We just need to think outside of the box and question the articles, and keep our eyes on the research and who is funding it.

  • Don’t believe everything you read!
  • Stay away from refined sugars and processed foods.
  • Eat REAL FOOD in it original state.
  • Eat foods without labels.
  • Follow the 80/20 rule.

There is more to come on future blogs and the “FIT FAT FAST” podcast.

Aloha,

Debbie Potts
