Here are some thoughts for you today… if you want to improve your ability to burn fat, optimize health and improve performance for life then where do we start? The WHOLESTIC Method Coaching program.
- Where does energy come from?
- How do we make energy?
- Our Mighty Mitochondria!
- How do we optimize the function of mitochondria?? More time in ENERGY MODE!
- What happens in our cells?
Mitochondria play a critical part in creating energy.
if we have a decrease in energy production… we start to see the body become less efficient, decrease in energy and increase of fatigue!
Start with what we eat as well as the other elements of The WHOLESTIC Method. As we know, chronic stress impacts the WHOLE you from the inside out. Chronic vs. Acute Stress… we want Acute!
How to optimize our fuel – becoming fat adapted- to decrease the oxidative damage to our cells partially caused by the high carb/sugar diet we grew up eating because we thought it was “HEALTHY”!
For five years or more, I have been speaking about THE WHOLESTIC METHOD to transform the WHOLE you from the inside out to burn fat, optimize health and improve performance at a cellular level – while improving the aging process! Performance gains and LONGEVITY should be our goal right?
To live a long, energetic, fun life filled with exploration and adventure!
Now I am putting more of the pieces of the puzzle together… why do we feel fat, tired and depressed? How do we get stronger, faster, healthier and happier as we age? I always dislike the excuse of blaming the “just getting older” card.
If we look at the cells that we are made from – with focus on the energy producers MITOCHONDRIA, as well as our sources of stress and our reaction to stress, then we should be able to:
-
improve our resistance to disease
-
improve our aging process
-
improve our energy levels
-
improve our performance in daily life and sports
We can’t just think we will fix ourselves with one magic supplement -even if a Mitochondrial support as Tru Niagen but look at the WHOLE person from the inside out. That is my focus on my coaching program for individuals and groups. Transformation from the inside out -starting at the cells. Fasting, low-carb, higher healthy fats, lots of organic vegetables, hydration and lifestyle improvements.
What about sleep and our circadian rhythm?
What about fasting and time restricted eating?
Dr. Mercola has a ton of amazing podcasts, research articles, books and links on his website especially when his book was publiished in 2017 (some how I missed this amazing book launch!). See links below to read more on how to improve your performance and longevity. This is what I have been talking about for years since I started metabolic efficiency testing in 2005 and FIT FAT FAST podcast in 2011 – without knowing what we were really working on yet!
To improve the health of an athlete- we want to train and fuel to become fat-adapt and get off the blood sugar roller coaster. But as we know from my LIFE IS NOT A RACE journey book – you can be low-carb/high-fat (LCHF) or fat-adapted but become insulin resistance and fatigued from chronic stress. Addressing the root cause of energy starts with what we are eating (LCHF) to balance the blood sugar but also improving our stress to be more resilient with respects to the HPA Axis and our Mitochondria. What about the other elements of The WHOLESTIC Method? Nutrition and Exercise are always hot topics but we need to talk about your sleep, stress, movement/mobility, gut health, digestion, hydration and happiness!
Dr. Mercola posted…
-
In simple terms, mitochondria are the powerhouse of your cells, producing about 90 percent of the energy being generated in your body
-
Everything that happens in your body, each and every muscle contraction and relaxation, biochemical cascade, cellular regeneration, detoxification and so on requires energy
-
Free radicals formed at the level of the mitochondria are typically extremely harmful, which is why you need to minimize them. Two of the most effective ways to do this are exercise and calorie restriction (fasting)
-
Mitochondria also act as the coordinator for apoptosis, or programmed cell death — an important process that ensures the death of malfunctioning cells that might otherwise turn into cancer
-
If your genetic heritage stems from equatorial regions, you will tend to have less brown (heat-generating) fat, and hence less mitochondrial uncoupling, which raises your risk of chronic disease. To counteract this, you will need to exercise regularly and regularly engage in cold thermogenesis training

More to come on becoming fat adapted and metabolic efficiency with improving our mitochondria health! Health starts with the gut but starts also at a cellular level.
