Learning about our GENETICS!

Learning about our GENETICS!

So if you have been following my blog the last few months, I have been learning about genetics for optimizing my health at a cellular level for performance and longevity. Of course I want to learn more about why I went from top age group triathlete at the end of 2012 to a fat, fatigued and frustrated athlete in March 2013!

Why did I get “adrenal exhaustion” and many other health issues?

Well I wrote an entire book about my journey, LIFE IS NOT A RACE, (on Amazon), then I have continued to learn more about health and wellness for myself as well as my coaching programs.

Now I am interested in genetic testing even though I did the 23andMe test many years ago- I never really looked at it or understood how much valuable data the test provided.  Then I did a program with Arivale a few years ago and then this year I just became a DNAFIT Coach.  Personally, I am putting together all of this genetic data and lab tests to determine where I went wrong – or why my body went hay wire in 2013 with “adrenal exhaustion”.

So let’s start with the genetic markers for detoxification used in DNAFIT coaching program.  DNAFIT uses two genetic markers that influence our Phase 1 Detoxification process.

  1. CYP1A2
  2. EPHXL

Phase 2 Detoxification Genetic markers used in DNAFIT include:

  1. GSTM1
  2. GSTT1

Other programs as Genetic Genie can give your methylation analysis as well as StrateGene analysis (just upload your raw data)…which SNPS you have in your genetics (mutations).   Genetic analysis tells you your individual gene expression – Homozygous or Heterozygous.    It doesn’t mean that you have a problem – perhaps you just need to clean up your genes as with The WHOLESTIC Method program or as in Dr. Ben Lynch’s DIRTY GENES book and program.
