Are you a fat burner or a sugar burner?

I know you want to lose a few pounds or more but you don’t know what is the best workout or diet to lose weight?!  Right?

Well if you listened to my podcast “Shut the front door” or my old podcast “Fit Fat Fast”, we have talked a lot about metabolic efficiency and how to become a fat burning machine.

What is metabolic efficiency?  Think of it as training your body to automatically use fat for fuel instead of sugar.  The problem is we have trained our bodies to go to sugar as our go to fuel over fat.  We have limited supply of our glycogen (carbs/sugar/glucose) stored in our liver and our muscles.  We have over 80,000 calories of stored fat in our bodies.

What makes more sense?  To be a sugar burner or a fat burner?  hmmmm.

How do we teach our bodies to be a fat burner or more metabolically efficient?  We can test our efficiency at rest or during exercise as on the treadmill.  At Fitness Forward Studio we offer metabolic efficiency tests using the New Leaf metabolic cart.  With the tests we can determine your fat burning zones and “metabolic cross over point” (where you switch from burning mostly fat to all carbs) in the exercise test.

Then we can use the heart zones that work best for you for fat burning endurance training workouts, high intensity interval training workouts and your active recovery workout sessions.  At Fitness Forward Studio we will begin using Heart Zone Training for our group and small group training workouts to help you stay in the right training zone.  Your results will be amazing as you work hard on the hard days and easy on the recovery days.  None of this over training syndrome.

The resting test will help us determine the percentage of fat and carbohydrates you utilize in a resting state.  We look at the “RQ” value where we can determine how efficient you are burning fat at rest.  I don’t worry about setting up a calorie weight loss plan with old school calculations of 3500 calories = 1 pound which are very inaccurate.  Instead we review the WHOLE picture with our “Wholestic Method” of fat loss.  We look at becoming more metabolically efficient with your nutrition plan and changing your food sources to be more real food.
