Spring Cleaning… the best time to Detox your life from the inside out!

A new season is upon us… even though it has been rainy and cold in Seattle! ย We often thing of spring time as a time when the flowers bloom and our environment comes alive after a long dark winter. ย We should be in tune with nature’s cycles – as the seasons change so do we- we sleep longer in the winter, eat more warm foods and feel like we hibernate a little more than the spring and summer months. ย If we pay attention to how our body feels when the season’s change – we may be aware of some congestion and even fatigue. ย Springtime brings allergies for many people. ย Perhaps this is the time we should be doing our own detoxification program- or as I see it as “Spring Cleaning” for ourselves from the inside and out.

What does that mean exactly?

Do you feel the need to put away your winter clothes and change your closet around for your spring clothes? ย Do you feel the need to clean out closets, drawers and cabinets? ย Spring cleaning.

We have our own natural ability to cleanse- and that may include cleaning house but how often do you clean your own internal house- your body? ย We are surrounded by toxins which are overwhelming our liver (filter) and detox system. ย What we put on our skin, on our hair, in our mouth and what we breath include toxins in most all of our5- regular household products. ย The air we breathe, the water we drink, the pool we swim in…toxins are everywhere. ย So a change in seasons to me it the ideal time to do a self-check and self- reflection…and do a 5-21 day Detox program as my The WHOLESTIC Method 5-Day Jumpstart Challenge and then the 21-Day Detox & Reset Challenge.

Not only is a 5-Day Jumpstart an ideal way to begin learning how to clean up your life from the inside out to transform the WHOLE you but also to become aware of addictions and habits.

Ask yourself this question- is there anything that you do everyday that you would miss if you didn’t have it?

Are these habits a positive impact on your life, health and well-being or negative? ย Like staying up late on your electronic devices surfing the web or checking updates on social media. ย Or going to the movies and having popcorn.

Take out a piece of paper or write on your notes- what are three habits that you are aware of that you would like to change? 1.

The WHOLESTIC Method type of Detoxification program includes eliminating the toxins in our food and environment but also toxic people in our life that cause stress. ย Then we have the other side of detoxification of our digestive system as it gets over loading from the overwhelming amount of toxins it needs to continuously filter out to defend our inner castle. The WHOLESTIC MEthod 5-day detox that I created offers a sort of “vacation” from our regular habits and time to do some cleaning up in our bodies and lives.

The eight elements of The WHOLESTIC Method that are addressed in our version of a detox program:

  1. Nutrition- eat whole real nutrient dense foods while we avoid common food allergens (grains/gluten, commercial pasturized dairy, peanuts, vegetable oils, sugar, and soy (GMO)
  2. Exercise: ย 3 strength training workouts per week plus 3 lower heart rate (180-age = estimated max aerobic function) plus intervals for some individuals depending on adrenal function.
  3. Sleep: ย go to bed by 10pm and get 7-9 hours of quality sleep per night – no computers, phones or T.V. before bed.
  4. Stress: ย track red flags and triggers, identify toxic relationships and awareness of pace (or racing) through daily life
  5. Movement: ย not sitting for more than one hour at a time- get up and do movement mobility drills.
  6. Digestion: ย make sure slow down and relax when eating (PNS), chew food 30 seconds/30 chews) and support gut health with our detox drink, probiotic supplements and one cup of healing bone broth per day.
  7. Hydration: drink two glasses of clean water first thing in the morning then throughout the day (half bodyweight in ounces of water per day). ย No alcohol, soda or caffienated beverages during challenge.
  8. Happiness: ย keep journal and write down each day at least three items you are grateful for that day and why.
