Are you afraid of fat? Start listening to my podcast…

How do you lose fat?  I often tell people…eat fat-lose fat, eat sugar-get fat.

Why are so many people of all ages fighting obesity?  Perhaps it is because we were told to eat 8-12 servings of healthy whole grains and breads on the food pyramid?  Or maybe to cut out all fat as it was bad for us.

Well I listened to those “fat loss tips” back in the 80’s and 90’s…

I ate pretty much only carbohydrates…cereal, bread, bagels, pasta and hot-air popcorn.  I even sprayed water on my hot-air popcorn then sprinkled seasoning salt on it for a “meal” or dinner in college!  I ate every fat-free, low-calorie and sugar-free product out there because I was watching my weight and eating what I thought was healthy.

What about protein?  Well I stopped eating most meat around eight grade when I paid attention to what I was eating…fried chicken from Kentucky Fried Chicken.  That the end of meeting most meat that looked like it came from an animal. Then I started to eat only soy based “fake” meat products so I could get more protein in my diet.  Now I was eating processed manufactured soy based foods on top of a high carbohydrate “healthy whole grain” fat free diet.

Wow…did I ever follow the wrong food rules.  My background with diets and eating a high carb/low fat diet for so many years probably contributed to my metabolically damaged body now.

I am sure you can relate.  How many diets did you follow growing up?  How much weight have you lost then re-gained?  Are you afraid to eat fat still today?  Do you think 3500 calories equel one pound of fat?

All of the myths we are told from the mainstream media and big money investors in the food industry have really caused havoc to most of our food plans as well as our relationship to food.
