How many people do you see on their cell phone when at the gym or exercising? We use our cell phones for everything now especially for our music, checking workout apps or listening to podcasts when exercising.
Now if you use your phone for music while you work out …do you stay off line or do you check your text, voicemail and emails?
I see most people in the gym, who use their phone for music, stop to check a text or email then continue their workout. Your workout should be your escape from life, your break and your internal focus. My workouts are my time to unplug, zone out and tune in. I don’t want to bring my phone with me to work out as I am too tempted to check a message or respond to an email or write an email I forgot about. Focus on what you are doing at the time and unplug.
It is time to set personal boundaries and disconnect from the outside world for specific times of the day: workout time, driving and when with other people. Focus on what you are doing and who you are with… we are too distracted and multi-tasking too many hours of the day.
You have a choice… you can use your iPod device or your phone. You can leave your phone in your car, bag or locker. You can hide your phone when driving. You can leave your phone in the other room when eating, working, socializing and sleeping.
It is time to set some limits and block off time for you this year… that includes your workout. That is my goal for 2016 for myself and my clients.
