New Semi-Private Yoga with Shelly on Tuesdays and Thursdays 12-1 p.m. and Sundays 10-11 a.m..
This small-group yoga class (limited to 6 students) offers personal attention and a welcoming environment. Join us for yoga designed to release stress, increase flexibility, build core stability, increase body confidence and improve balance and posture. Classes are designed to release tension by linking breath to movement and building heat from within, inspiring a natural opening and lengthening of the body. Postures targeting hips, shoulders, back and neck relieve stiffness. Mindfulness and alignment techniques are taught with the postures to prevent injuries and to train the mind to be calm and focused. Students are encouraged to work to their own personal edge, learning to open without overstretching. Postures can be adapted for different levels of experience and students choose to back off or intensify stretches according to their body. New students and tight muscles welcome!
Shelly Thorn, RYT
As a prenatal student in 1998, I was fascinated by yoga’s calming effect. Later I delved into a variety of styles from sweaty, intense vinyasa classes to gentle, yin and meditation-focused yoga. I’ve truly loved it all. My interest in teaching was awakened while volunteering at a women’s homeless shelter where I felt drawn to help the women release some tension and ground themselves before leaving to spend the day on the streets. This led me to teacher training with Street Yoga for homeless youth, Samarya Center of Seattle (where I earned my 200-hour RYT in 2008), Seane Corn and Off the Mat Into the World, an internationally renowned yoga and social change organization, Gary Kraftsow, Jason Crandell of Yoga Journal fame and others. Such personal study and practice is the basis for my teaching. I enjoy bringing together proven techniques from a variety of styles into a flowing and calming class with built-in adaptations for different levels and intensities.
As a mom of three sons, I have found that practicing yoga gives me a sense of presence, calm and patience that is transformational in how I show up in my life. It is my pleasure to help others achieve their own version of this blissful and highly useful side effect of yoga! I am honored to witness students as they have their own unique experiences, each finding what it’s like to feel at home in his or her body and renewing the connection to their inner power, inner knowing and inner peace.
