Solutions for your New Year’s Resolutions!

Every January we feel the need to set new goals or resolutions for the New Year! How often to we achieve these goals? Rarely?

Well how about making your New Years Resolutions for 2014 a little more achievable?

Let’s start with some common NY Resolutions and how we can create realistic solutions… here are some goals that I think about setting each year then some simple solutions.

1. LOSE WEIGHT: Eat less sugar and grains and replace with more vegetables (green drinks made at home), healthy fats and healthy proteins. Make “SUPER GREEN” drink for dinner during the week. Order monthly http://myshakeology.com/DebPotts to drink at work for breakfast.

2. SAVE MONEY: Talk to my financial advisor and set up automatic deposit to my 401k and SEP funds. Set investment goal for the year and write on my “vision board” in my home office.

3. STRENGTH/METABOLIC EXERCISE MORE: Schedule two group training sessions per week at Fitness Forward Studio or with our trainer/interns. Purchase P90X3 (www.beachbodycoach.com/DebPotts to order P90X3 or T25). I will schedule one workout per week at club with my husband Neal to do cardio/strength interval workout. I must add plyometrics into my routine!

4. SLEEP MORE: My goal is to sleep 7-9 hours per night even during the week. I wake up during the week for work at 4:15 AM so I must get my 8 hours of sleep to survive the day with energy! My goal is to be off computers and electronic devices 2 hours before bed or for sure by 8pm. My goal is to read one hour before bed to help fall asleep and finish my books stacked up by my bed.

5. MAKE TIME FOR FRIENDS: Every since I opened up my own business (fitness studio) in 2009, I have lost touch with many of my friends (unless they workout at my studio!). My goal is to see one friend every month and make plans in advance as we are all so busy.

6. To Do Something NEW Each month: My husband set this goal last year but to do something new every WEEK… we didn’t last very long. This year I would like to do something new every month and that could be going to a new park, new hike, new place to eat, activity or volunteer somewhere new. When is the last time you took a ferry ride or walk through the local museum?
