Let’s begin by focusing on eating a properly prepared nutrient dense diet – plus proper digestion and absorption for 2-3 months before we add hormone support.

Nutritional Therapy for Endocrine Health:

  • Always address the foundations first when dealing with hormonal issues!
  • MINERALS: iodine, zinc, manganese, chromium, selenium and copper
  • Essential Fatty Acids: body cannot make hormones without fats
  • Endocrine factories are inside cells
  • Phospholipids layer around each cell controls what goes in/out of cell
  • Healthy cell membrane needed for cellular/hormonal communication to occur
  • Hydration supports the transport of hormones throughout the body
  • Hydration for proper flow-viscosity of the blood and interstitial fluids
  • Any attempt to normalize hormonal imbalances are futile until blood sugar and adrenal issues are addressed and controlled
  • Pregnenolone Steel: precursor to production of adrenal and sex hormones but if too much demand for cortisol (stress hormone) then pregnenolone can used to make more cortisol – thus create hormonal imbalance
  • Adrenal function is favored of reproduction, metabolic rate and other endocrine functions (slow thyroid)
  • Adrenal glands (HPA Axis) are allowed to “Steal” nutrients and hormonal precursors from rest of endocrine system creating hormonal cascade of imbalances.
  • Do not supplement with pregnenolone, progesterone or cortisol until the chronic stress responses is abated and cortisol production is reduced (NTA guidelines) or else you are putting “fuel on fire” to continue increasing cortisol to put out the “emergency”/chronic stress.
  • Address prolonged stress response- identify triggers, red flags and sources of stress inside and out.
  • SYMPTOMS of low thyroid include:
    • Weight gain
    • General fatigue
    • Dry skin
    • depression

  • Mitochondrial dysfunction: nutrition insufficiencies, antibiotics, NSAID, trauma, toxins…
  • Low levels of dietary protein, Omega 3, vitamin D, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Potassium, Zinc, Copper, lithium, iron, selenium and magnesium all affect thyroid gland function
  • Liposomal vitamin C to restore adrenal health 2000-3000 mg of C three times a day for 2-3 months then 1000 mg liposomal vitamin C twice a day ongoing
  • Improve nutrition, digestion and absorption before committing to lifelong use of thyroid hormones
  • Chronic stress- hyper or hypo alters the TSH thus the T4 and T3
  • Treat the adrenals/HPA Axis if cortisol labs (Dutch Test) show dysfunction- make sure circadian rhythm in check
  • Check for imbalance of omega 3/omega 6 fatty acids as well as low levels of vitamin C (liposomal C)
  • Selenium balanced with iodine –
  • Taurine- regulates many enzymes critical fatty acid regulation (1000-2000 mg x 2/day) with or without food
  • DHA in every cell- as it is an anti-inflammatory and Omega 3 is inflammatory– balance
  • Minerals to support thyroid
  • Low protein and inappropriate fatty acids decrease ability to produce hormones or increase cellular resistance to hormones
  • Consume adequate protein and potassium

  1. TSH
  2. Free T3 and T4
  3. Ferritin (over 70)
  4. Fasting insulin
  5. Reverse T3
