The other day my “nutrition tip” of the day on Facebook was “Wait to eat breakfast until you are HUNGRY”.
The comments back to me were so fascinating to me…
- “if you have low blood sugar issue, you must eat with in 30 minutes of rising”
- “I keep hearing that you should have 20-30 grams of protein within 30 minutes of waking to rev up metabolism”
I am assuming most people strive to burn fat for fuel and get off the blood sugar roller coaster… but do we ever stop and think about different “Food Rules” and decide if they make sense to us or not?
I started wondering why I need to eat every hour on a bike ride (250-300 calories) if I am trying to lose fat weight. Why did I need to wake up to “rev up my metabolism” when I want not even hungry? I always was told to eat first thing in the morning in order to activate my metabolism… BUT did we ever stop and wonder if we were burning fat for fuel while we are sleeping, maybe we were still burning fat for fuel upon waking so we didn’t need to eat unless we woke up with a low blood sugar.
This week try to set 1-3 food goals… make one goal “To eat when hungry” and start listening to your body when you need to eat. Then start looking at what you are eating including reading food labels and ingredients …then limit eating foods with a label!
