Do you ever wake up feeling tired and cranky?
Do you have some days you just can’t sleep through the night and shut off your brain?
Today I felt tired all morning while I was training my personal training clients. I could have had a nap on the massage treatment table in our back room. My body and mind was exhausted from a weekend away at the FDN conference. I didn’t get to bed until 10pm last night as I had a later evening flight and my husband was coughing so I couldn’t get into a deep sleep.
The 5am alarm wake up call this Monday morning was too early. I needed another hour of sleep but I had to get up and start the work day. I felt off all morning- slightly edgy and not the best patience. Instead of going to masters swim workout at 12pm today, I knew a nap at home was more beneficial for restarting my engine.
I could sense my red flags my body was sending me…take time out to pause, reset and reboot the internal engine as I was not operating at optimal levels. A workout was not needed but a nap and a quiet walk around the block in the sunshine.
Do you listen to your red flags and slow down as needed?
Do you take your sleep seriously as I do now?
Learn from my mistakes and lessons learned over the years as a type A personality who loves to pack her days up… take a nap when needed and get my 8-9 hours of quality sleep per night.
More is not better. Sometimes a 20-minute power nap is best in the afternoon than an interval workout. Sometimes it is the other way around. Listen to those red flags… your body is smart. It is when we ignore the alerts and warnings that we get ourselves into trouble.
